The Treble Chorus of New England is a youth choral program founded in 1975. Our mission is to educate children and young adults by providing vocal training and performance experience that inspire a life-long passion for choral music. Weekly rehearsals are designed to prepare young people to perform great music, teach and build teamwork, encourage confidence and foster creativity. We perform a rich diversity of choral music from around the world. The programming includes opera and professional collaborations.
TCNE has a long history of performances of classical and fine contemporary literature for children’s voices. We serve young people ages 6-19 from over 35 diverse communities.
Over its thirty-two-year history, TCNE has achieved many significant artistic milestones. Our choirs have performed under the direction of Sir David Willcocks and Keith Lockhart, and have shared Boston’s Symphony Hall stage with the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland and many Boston-area choruses. TCNE has commissioned many works and has participated in international exchanges and tours including England, Canada, Germany, Florida, Louisiana, and most recently Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington D.C.
In keeping with its goal of educating new audiences, TCNE presents an annual educational concert at Merrimack College. Through the medium of opera, select music and an education packet, the children are exposed to the many facets of classical music. This year, Hansel and Gretel, by Engelbert Humperdinck, is a fully staged and costumed presentation with charming folk songs and clever rhymes.
The success of these performances is a tribute to the enthusiasm and talents of the members of the cast and choir, as children sing for children.
